Luke Pembroke’s ‘A Haemophilia Gene Therapy Journey’ (in the individual cat)

Chosen by the judges for an additional commendation because they were so impressed, Luke’s story of his gene therapy journey was awarded ‘Best in show’. From the minute they saw Luke’s video they were all in agreement that it was a fantastic piece of visual storytelling that stood out in a class of its own. Well done Luke!

Our judges thought this video balanced the reality of living with a rare condition with the hope of the Rare Disease community. They also thought it articulated all the current conversations about Rare Diseases in regards to Covid-19 extremely well. Some other comments from our judges included ‘This is awesome!’ and ‘I wish I’d made it!’.

Our judges thought this blog post was extremely well written and drew them into Connor’s story straight away. They thought it was a brilliant, powerful story through the diagnosis of  a Rare Disease from a parent’s perspective.

Our judges thought Patrick’s story spoke brilliantly to the themes of Rare is Proud – it really showcased strong and proud storytelling. They also really enjoyed the fact it was a young person telling a positive story of hope.

Our judges thought this post showed the power that a single image can have to tell a story. They thought it perfectly articulated ‘Rare is Proud’, ‘Rare is Strong’ and ‘Rare is Many’ – a beautifully crafted piece of storytelling that had our judges blown away. Some of the other comments included ‘The text was such a brilliant accompaniment to the image.’ and ‘This shows the power of social media to raise awareness’.

Our judges were blown away by this video that tells Luke’s journey with Gene Therapy. They thought it was a complete stand out and was an extremely powerful piece of video storytelling. ‘Just WOW!’ – was one judge’s comment

Our judges thought that these two series of photos brilliantly showed the two sides of life with a Rare Disease and described the post as emotional, raw, powerful and brave.
