Fuchsfriends Uk

Welcome to the website of Fuchsfriends UK a support group for those with the condition known as Fuchs’ Corneal Dystrophy.

If you don’t know what Fuchs’ Dystrophy is, it is an eye condition affecting the cornea and causing the cells that pump impurities and fluids out of it to die. Normally it is a slowly progressing disease.

The condition is dominantly inherited, more common in women, generally begins at 30 to 40 years of age, and gradually progresses.

Fuchs’ cannot be cured. However, with certain medications, blurred vision, resulting from the corneal swelling, can be controlled. A Corneal transplant is required when the vision deteriorates to the point that it impairs the patient’s ability to function normally.
