Westminster Election 2010 –
Contact your Prospective Parliamentary Candidates

As you are probably aware, the general election has been called for the 6th May. We are calling on our members to contact their Prospective Parliamentary Candidates (PPCs) to introduce them to the issues that affect you and the need for a strategy for rare diseases. Your PPCs are the candidates from each political party who are contesting the election in your constituency.

It is likely that the election will see the biggest turnover of MPs since 1945 and many new MPs will have little prior knowledge or expertise in healthcare policy. As a result it is crucial that we target candidates at an early stage to make them aware of the needs of people with rare diseases and their families. The most effective way of doing this is by you, their constituents, getting in contact.

It may seem as though your letters do not make a difference, but contacting your MPs/elected representatives is the most effective way to generate political support for rare diseases. By contacting your PPCs now you can help shape a parliament that is aware of the issues and supportive of the need for a strategy.
